I haven’t kept an angst-ridden diary since I was a teenager, so I’m going to keep this news brief and upbeat, even if it kills me.

Alex got the six month intern job at the Sports Ireland Archive in Kildare. 

He rang me at work as soon as he got their call. “I got it, Nina. I’m going to the Sports Archive. This is brilliant!”

“Wow, that’s amazing news. I’m really happy for you.”

Linda’s head spun around like a possessed child. She mouthed - Alex? - at me and I nodded.

“Have you got a start date?” I pulled a pad of paper closer to me and picked up a pen. I might not like this, but I could write it down anyhow.

Linda mouthed - job? - and I nodded again. She picked up the box of tissues...
