“There’s a box for you in the break room,” said Linda when I returned from my lunch break today.

“Great. I was expecting a delivery.”

One of my mother’s sisters was very kind about sending the family a box of treats from Canada when Claire and I were little girls. It was so exciting to get this mysterious cardboard box, covered in stamps, from another continent. Having to wait until Christmas Day was painful, I’ll admit, but once it was opened, oh the joy. Different chocolate that we couldn’t buy in Ireland! Comic books, little plastic toys, a painting or craft set, and usually an LM Montgomery book. I still love the Anne of Green Gables and Emily of New Moon stories.

But the arrival was never heralded, it just arrived.
