I always know when November is approaching because I get a little visit from Catherine, our local writing mentor for National Novel Writing Month. Sometimes she pops in to do some research or to use the quiet study area during the year, but she has a more efficient glint in her eye when she arrives in late October.

“Catherine, how are you?”

“Exhausted, Nina, if I’m honest. I’ve been so busy lately.”

“I’m sorry to hear that. I can direct you to the meditation books if you like? Or can I interest you in a comfy chair in the quiet area?”

She laughed. She has a lovely chortling laugh. “I wish I had the time. Are we OK for using the meeting room again this year? Are Thursdays still alright?”

“Absolutely. Let me pull up...
