Boss Lady keeps a scrapbook of our press coverage and forwards every clipping to Library HQ. I thought she loved her name in the papers but now I understand she equates fame with success. She’s convinced her position in the hierarchy is secure if her superiors perceive her as raising the profile of the library.

A good example is how she reacted to my brief window of fame related to “Storyteller and the Bear” on television. She sent out press releases to local media. She landed me and Bob the Library Bear on local radio twice. Doing Bob’s “voice” on radio was surreal but I learned an important fact. Far more people than you would think listen to local daytime radio. I had people telling me they heard me on the radio for weeks afterwards.
