Anybody reading this from a country where they get real snow would laugh at Ireland. The entire country has ground to a halt today thanks to a couple of inches of snow.

According to the news, snowploughs are running 24x7 at Dublin airport but they can’t keep the runway clear and have closed to all flights. I wouldn’t want to be on a plane in this weather. Ice is not good for planes.

The buses and trains have stopped and to the joy of the country’s children, the schools are closed. It’s still possible to get out and about though. The snow stopped falling for a while this morning so I took my chance to walk to the library.

Yes, walk. I’m not enough of an idiot to cycle in this weather. Narrow bike tyres versus hidden icy patches is not a good combo. I pull...
