We don’t count how many people enter the library each day. We count the books, and count them a second time when we’ve found the missing ones. We count the memberships. I count the participants at our classes and workshops. Boss Lady counts the budget. Linda counts the minutes until she can go home. But we don’t count the people.

However if we did count the people I think we would get a very different total on an average Tuesday versus today when we held our annual book sale.

There’s something about owning a book, I guess. I mean, despite working in a library and having access to pretty much any book I want via Alex and his work on Inter Library Loans, I still buy books. I borrow them too, it would seem awful not the use the library, but with all the ones I buy,...
