“Books in foreign languages?” Linda’s face wore her confused look. She scrunches up her nose a little, tilts her head to one side, and crosses her arms. She thinks it makes her look like she’s considering something important but actually she appears to be doing complex mathematics without a calculator, and failing to get the right answer.

It was our January book purchase planning meeting. We will have more than one and plenty of lists flying back and forth via email too, but this was the one where we set our overall objectives and this was a topic I wasn’t prepared to back down on.

“Yes, books in foreign languages.”

“Do you mean books for learning languages?” asked Boss Lady. “We have some sets already for European languages.”
