I know the proverb is about the cat being out of the bag, but the elf being out of the box is much worse. Although I’ve always wondered how you’d get a cat into a bag in the first place judging by the trouble my parents had getting our childhood pet, Tiddles, into her cat box for transport to the vet. The first aid box was usually required for the scratches on my poor mother’s arms.

Speaking of cats, Oscar our library kitten is having fun with Elf. Oscar long ago decided Bob the Library Bear was his litter-mate, a furry friend to curl up to for an afternoon nap. He used to cuddle Bob overnight too but since September, Boss Lady has admitted that Oscar is really more her cat than the library cat and has been taking him home each night so Bob is more of a daytime friend now.
