Sallyanne met me at reception. We’d settled on a Monday for the TV audition as the library is closed on Mondays. It took me nearly two hours to get to the headquarters of our national broadcaster via bus, train, and then a leaf kicking walk. Dad offered to drive me. He was curious about seeing the place, but I’d no idea how long it would take and I didn’t want him waiting around all day.

“Hi, Nina. Great to meet you in person.”

For a second I wondered how she knew who I was amongst the handful of others waiting in the comfortable chairs, but of course, she’d seen me on “Nationwide”.

“Yes, likewise.”

“It’s this way,” she said and trotted off, swiping us through a couple of doors with the keycard slung around her...
