The next day was our last at the Ennis Book Club Festival and after a rather long dinner the night before spirits were flagging. Kitty still bounced like a new puppy. Her decision to stay away from the booze probably had a role to play.

I wasn’t hungover, but I wasn’t exactly perky either. Mary called to my room to collect me for the literary lunch and as we walked to the venue she filled me in on the morning activities I’d skipped.

“You should have seen Kitty at the contemporary women’s fiction talk, Nina.” Mary laid her hand on my arm. “Nina, she took notes in a little pink notebook.”

“Notes? Kitty? But we’re lucky if she remembers the character names when we discuss the books at the meetings.”
