If you ever want to see a room of quiet librarians erupt into shouting, hair-pulling, screams, and pure unadulterated mayhem there’s a simple way to achieve it.

You can even whisper it and it will still work its way around the room, creating chaos as it passes.

“Some books deserve to be burned.”

That sentence will do it, every time.

I’ve met some variations on the theme, during my time as a librarian and all of them make me want to scream.

“Where are your books for boys?”

“This book should be censored.”

“Do you have the abridged edition?”

“This book is too young for my child.”

Ah yes, I really should print t-shirts. I’d make a fortune at the next library conference.
