“Nina, are you talking to Inter Library Loan, again?” asked Linda loudly as Boss Lady passed the issue desk returning from lunch.

I could have thrown a book at Linda. I wasn’t on the phone to Alex at all. I was answered a query from a sight-impaired reader about our audio book collection. I covered the phone with my hand and hissed “no”.

She smirked back at me and Boss Lady continued up the stairs without breaking her stride. Either she’s losing her hearing or she’s ignoring Linda’s relentless teasing about my romantic life.

Linda pouted her mouth into an O of surprise and then whispered “sorry” in my direction.
