As you might expect I didn’t tell Linda, or Imelda, that Alex had asked me out on a date. The first would have ruined my week with jokes about librarians on dates and the second would have commissioned Zara to bake our wedding cake. Imelda has been hinting for about a year now that we should try seeing each other in a romantic rather than work way. I kept putting her off but clearly she has been on Alex’s case as well, poor guy.

I really hope her nagging wasn’t the only reason he asked me out.

I wish I hadn’t just thought of that.

Anyhow, we decided we wouldn’t do the date during the fortnight we spent running Imelda’s mobile library route. We would have talked about work the entire time and given that we’ve met through work and have similar roles...
