When I first started at Castle Bailey Library every event caught me unawares. Well, maybe not Christmas, I was ready for that one, but all the rest of them. Boss Lady would send an email asking what we had planned for Jane Austen’s birthday or Diwali. I’d look at Linda who would be engrossed in her latest cookbook or celebrity magazine and then dive onto the nearest search engine to find ideas.

Discovering pinterest really helped as it revealed an important fact - I wasn’t the only under-prepared librarian in the world, plus some lovely colleagues had already invented the wheel so we could borrow and adapt their ideas. If I had a bigger budget, i.e. ANY budget, I could achieve so much more but at least I have gradually assembled a calendar of important dates and now I review tho...
