Reading is Not an Elite Sport

Boss Lady (and her husband) have their golf. Alex and his crew-mates have their rowing. I cycle to work but I see that at transport rather than as a sport. The closest I get to that would be reading.
Linda disagreed. “Reading is not an elite sport, Nina.”
I shook my head. “It has been shown to improve heart health and reduce stress.”
“But it’s not a sport. You can’t win medals for it.”
“They used to award Olympic medals for literature.”
She put down her tea mug and stared at me. “You cannot be serious.”
“Yep, from 1912-1952. Oliver Gogarty won a bronze for a poem. Do you know the painting, the Liffey Swim? That got gold.”
She shook her head at this craziness and stirred a second spoonful of sug...
