I’ve been purchasing new stock for the library all week. Linda has zero interest in books unless they’re cookery books so guess who gets to fill out the paperwork?

ISBN numbers are several digits too long in my opinion and devilishly difficult to fill in correctly after you’ve done the first fifty. Double and triple checking them is not pleasant work. I found myself longing for a rowdy Story Time or one of those wonderful “I’m looking for a book. I don’t know the author’s name or the title but the cover is blue” queries.

I could adopt Linda’s approach to such questions, I suppose. She waves her arm in a queen-like fashion towards the shelves and tells them to enjoy the hunt.

By eleven o’clock on Tuesday I was desperate for a break from paperwork....
