After a very brief tour of the library and our courtyard garden, interrupted twice by people wanting to check out books, I set Jim our Temporary Librarian to wrapping Summer Mystery Reads from the children’s section while I selected books for the same scheme for our adult readers.

By lunchtime we had the parcelled books ready for checkout. I’d even had time to do the promotion of the event online, with some help from Bob the Library Bear, naturally.

I’d brought a packed lunch, as had Jim, so Boss Lady covered the desk while we ate. I tried to give him a quick guide to what work I’d need him to do during the next two weeks. Because he hadn't started his library studies course yet I was limited, unlike many of our previous temps, he did know his way around a computer so...
