“Morning, Nina,” said Boss Lady, swinging in the main doors in a light blue linen trouser suit, huge sunglasses, and a basket-style handbag. I wish I had her budget for clothes.
“Hi, where’s Linda’s replacement?”
“I told them they could start at eleven this morning, ease them in, you know.”
She grabbed a bunch of newspapers from the table and headed to her office.
Ease them in gently? How about me? I’d been in since 8:30, knowing Linda was sure to have annihilated the printer in my absence, as usual. I was right. It took me forty minutes to get it functioning, another twenty to put the library event calendar back to its usual settings, and that was before I tackled the un-opened letters and parcels in a crate beside the issue desk, opened...
