Statistics suggest that more people seek a new job after Christmas and their summer break than at any other season. There’s something about having time to think while you’re lying there full of turkey or stretched out on a sun-lounger.

I haven’t done either in recent times and even if I had found a lounger in Galway, I would have been too busy reading a book to be thinking, but nonetheless as I walked along Salthill promenade I had been thinking about work and fresh starts.
