Today we had a Fire Inspection visit. Our local part-time fire chief had put Boss Lady in contact with a consultant who assesses building safety and recommends any changes needed to bring them in line with good practice.

“Good morning, I’m Frank O’Reilly. I’m here to do the fire inspection.” He was a tall man, thin, with a bushy moustache and wire-rimmed spectacles.

Linda bounced to her feet. “Hi, thanks for coming. Unfortunately our boss was called to an emergency budget meeting at Library HQ, but she said Nina can show you around while I look after things here.” She managed to say all that while looking efficient and busy but the library didn’t actually have any users in the building yet. Linda has perfect radar when it comes to spotting which jobs to avoid.
