Whenever I mention online that I’m an Irish librarian I get one of the following reactions -
“I’d love to be a librarian, you’re so lucky.” (they don’t have to work with Linda)
“The land of saints and scholars. I’d love to visit one day.” (funnily enough I don’t trip over many saints or scholars on my daily commute, unless you count the little children streaming into the childcare centre down the road)
“You must have so many great Irish books in your library - Yeats, Swift, Joyce.” (Yeah, sorta)
We do have copies of Yeats, Swift, and Joyce but they are not exactly flying off the shelves. Very few of our readers take out poetry books, so that’s Yeats in trouble for a start. We all study him in school...
