March is a “meh” month in these parts. Theoretically it should be spring and yes, a few daffodils have bloomed in the flowerpots at the door to the library, but as usual the Irish weather hasn’t read the memo about it being warmer or sunny. In a week’s time it will be St. Patrick’s Day and the poor dance-club members will shiver in their tiny costumes as they march and spin down the street to the tunes of the local brass band. I’m always amazed they don’t freeze to death.

The library is warm enough as Linda sneaks behind Boss Lady’s back and tweaks the thermostat setting every morning when she arrives and reduces it again before she leaves. Boss Lady checks the setting when she locks up, if she’s the last to leave. It pushes up the heating bill in an un-exp...
