If you work in a library, and you’re not my colleague Linda, you probably like reading. It doesn’t automatically follow that you like writers.

There’s a thing called NaNoWriMo which started in America and now runs all around the world. I’d seen it online before but last week we got a visit from the local organiser, a woman called Catherine.

“Hi, I’m wondering if you have a writing group here?”

“Yes, we do. They meet on the last Saturday of the month in our room upstairs.”

Her face lit up and she fumbled in her bag. “Oh that is great news. I wonder could you give them this?” She passed me a letter and pulled out a poster. “And could I put this up on your noticeboard?”
