Later that day, she parked her car several houses down the street from her father’s place. Judging by all of the cars, the family get-together was in full swing.
She unplugged her cell phone from where it had been charging in the car and just as she was about to chuck it in her purse, it vibrated. Seeing Ryan’s picture come up on the screen, she quickly tapped the button to answer it. “Hello? Ryan? Hey!” she cried.
“Hey!” Ryan said. “We just landed in Toronto. I tried calling this morning but your phone kept going to voicemail!”
“It was dead!”
