She turned back to her phone and texted Ryan a message saying that she would go meet his friend for a drink at his hotel when she left the teacher get-together. She and Jen had gotten a ride to The Backyard and she was already in the neighborhood, so what could it hurt?

When she walked out into the courtyard at the Penn Hotel an hour later, she was relieved that the sun had started to go down and that it was, at last, a little bit cooler. There were two bars in the courtyard and she stood in between them, looking for Mike, a guy Ryan described as being over six feet tall, dark hair, and a big flirt.

She spotted a guy that fit the description; although he was seated, his long legs indicated his height. His dark hair was neatly slicked back. He looked impossibly cool and sophisticate...
