She tried saying, “Excuse me!” and gently pushing herself in between people, but she was slow to make any progress because music had started blaring from the speakers and nobody could really hear her, no matter how loudly she shouted. She gave up and returned to the bar, where there was surprisingly a little more breathing room.

She managed to squeeze herself into a spot at the corner and considered pulling out her phone to text Ryan and ask if they wanted another round of drinks. While she waited for a bartender to notice her, she felt someone leaning against her back, pressed uncomfortably close against her, hot, and a little sticky. She pressed a little closer to the edge of the bar, fully intending to place her order...
