The Fifth First Date

Beth and Jen were sitting at a small table in the middle of the coffee shop on the ground level of Beth’s apartment building. “You’re meeting a guy at the farmer’s market?” Jen asked. “That’s a date?”

Beth took a sip of her iced coffee. “My dad  and Meg said maybe I should sign up for a dating app. I signed up for MeetCute, and I’m going to meet someone. That’s kind of how it works.”

“I can’t believe you’re taking dating advice from your dad. Do you want me to follow you to make sure he’s not a dud?”

“No!” she laughed. “Please don’t. It’ll be fine.”

“What’s his name? What does he look like?” Jen asked, swirling the ice...
