“Don’t do that to yourself,” Alex said. The waitress reappeared and slid their drinks and sundaes in front of them. Alex’s eyes widened at the size of his banana split. He waited until the waitress was out of the way before he continued talking. “A lot of people have asked me if I feel like I got married too young, or have said things like they feel bad that I wasted so much of my time with the wrong person, and I can’t listen to that.” Beth dug into her banana split, listening intently. “I did what I did, and those are years that I can’t get back now, so there’s no sense in worrying about what’s gone,” he said. “I just have to make the most of the time that’s left, right?”
