Beth took her glass of juice over to the windows and looked down at the street below. “I’m going to. I’m going to call him.”

“Great,” Jen said. “And I’m going back to bed. Let me know how it goes.” Jen hung up the phone before Beth could ask any questions. She didn’t know if she should call him back right away or wait a while. Were there rules about how soon to call a guy back? She had no idea, but considering that he had already called to invite her to brunch, she figured it wouldn’t hurt to go ahead and call him right back. She chugged her juice, cleared her throat, and dialed his number.

“Hello?”

“Mitch?” she asked. “It’s Beth. I guess I just missed your call.”
