"I'll see if he’ll let me get close again,” she said. Marlowe moved to her side, her tail pulsating in the water to keep herself steady. She watched with wary eyes as Narissa leaned forward, her hand outstretched, and laid her palm against the smooth black hide of the kraken.
He looked scared, his eyes wide when she touched him. He tried to pull away, but Narissa closed her eyes, and he settled. Whatever power she had was working on this beast. The kraken eased back down onto the floor of the cavern, its eyes closing again. It didn’t look asleep like it had before, just lulled into some sort of relaxation. Narissa blew out a calming breath, and put her other hand on one of his tentacles to steady herself.
