Silently, Narissa shook her head and went into the kitchen to make her morning cup of tea. Her sisters still crowded the window in the bedroom, watching as the flames started to die down. Something stirred in her, and she slammed her cup down onto the counter and went back to the bedroom to change into a long, flowing sage green dress that helped her blend in in the forest but contrasted with her long dark hair that hung straight between her shoulder blades.

Mariah raised an eyebrow, watching her sister prepare herself. “Where are you going?” she asked, crossing her arms over her chest.

“I’m going to go talk to the dragon.” Narissa could feel her hands shaking as she slung a leather bag over her chest and shoulder, positioning it over...
