Kelly’s apartment had been cleared. Her sister Kayla paid for all her things to be put into storage. There was no funeral, no wake, and no gathering for their parents. They were turned into ashes and put into an insignificant blank box, and someone, no one is sure who, threw their ashes somewhere, maybe. At least it was assumed that’s what was done with the remains of two people who never were able to express care or love.

The apartment manager did a last check of the empty apartment. It was eerily quiet with a stale, nondescript odor. He went room to room and turned on the ceiling fan as he left each one. As he was leaving the bedroom, a piece of paper caught his eye. It was a note. A love note.
