Detective Rita Flores grew up in a family of girls. Her father worked in mortgage finance and her mother was a hair cutter. She had three sisters. While her sisters fought over tea sets and dolls, Rita played toy guns. Though he never said anything, everyone in the family knew Rita was their father’s favorite. He died when she was eleven. Murdered by a man who was angry that he lost everything in his divorce, especially his house, and decided to take out whoever he could in the bank that day. Rita’s father was one of nine people killed and twenty-two injured. The gunman took his own life.
