CHAPTER NINE

When Garrett came to, a figure was standing over him. For a minute he thought it was Thalia, but as his vision cleared his heart sank as he realized it was only Ember. He sat up, his head aching.

“What do you think you were doing, Garrett! You could’ve died, or worse, killed someone!”

“You don’t know what I saw!” he spit out at her, his words unclear.

“What happened?” she asked and sat down.

“I saw Thalia,” he covered his face with his hands. “She doesn’t remember me.”

“Garrett...” Ember said and touched his hand.

He pulled away and stood up, swaying again.

“Don’t act like you care,” he said.

“I do care, Garrett.”
