There was a knock on the front door.

That was strange, I thought. Destiny had a key.

I walked out of my study to answer it.

“Did you forget your...”

But it wasn’t Destiny at the front door.

It was Bradley.

And when I looked at his side I gasped.

Chloe was with him.

I frowned.

“Where’s Destiny?”

Bradley didn’t smile. There was something else in his eyes. I couldn’t quite place it. And then I realized.

Sympathy.

“I found her in the park. Alone.”

“No,” I said. “Something must have happened.”

I reached in my pocket for my phone and dialled the number of the phone I’d given Destiny.

No answer.
