The man had been lurking outside now for a half hour. At first I thought he was just waiting or resting. Then he started pacing up and down. But when he started looking through my windows I knew something was wrong.

I opened my front door and it startled the man, who moved away from the window.

“What do you want?” I said, roughly.

“Nothing from you, man,” he said. “I’m here to collect my girl.”

“Your girl?”

“Yeah, Destiny.”

I didn’t say anything. I just looked at him.

“She’s here aint she?” he asked.

I swallowed hard.

“What do you want from her?”

“I don’t have to explain that to you.”
