I looked out towards the crowd of people.

“We can’t wait any longer,” Miss Patterson said. “We have to start the show.”

“Just a minute,” I said. “He might show.”

My teacher hugged me.  

“I’m sorry, Kurt. I don’t think he will.”

She pulled away and looked at me with sympathy.

“Let me know when you’re ready.”

I looked towards the crowd again.

I have to stop waiting for people to start treating me better. I need to start treating myself better first. My dad might have not accepted me as I was. But I deserved to love whoever I wanted to. I deserved to live and love my life.
