“Dinner’s great, Hun,” my dad said.

“Thanks, sweetheart.”

They’d been really quiet during dinner but I hardly noticed. My mind could only focus on Nairi it seemed.

“Michael? How was your day?” My dad asked.

Michael didn’t look up.

“Fine,” he said.

“And you Charlie? How was your day?”

I looked up.

“It was great,” I said.

My dad nodded.

“You’ve been awfully busy lately after school.”

“Yeah, I got assignments I need to do.”

“You mean hang around freak show houses,” Michael muttered.

“Michael! We’ll handle it,” my mom said.
