CHAPTER 20

The new millennium brought only subtle changes for most of the Bailey family. Colin and Karen spent the wet spring indoors decorating the lounge and turning Sharron’s bedroom into a room fit for a little princess. As she had turned fourteen at the end of January, she was starting to look like a young woman rather than a child.

Being an only child she had a tendency to be precocious, but neither Colin nor Karen could see that and if they had they weren’t inclined to change anything. They both loved their daughter dearly and spent as much time as they could spoiling her.

Sharron’s few hours of being treated with some degree of control and every now and then some mild censure, was when she stayed over at her grandmother’s house. Kath Smith wasn’t one...
