CHAPTER 17

Jennifer Bailey had arrived home to an empty house. She was too pre-occupied with her thoughts about her last meeting with Verona at the hospital to notice any miniscule change in her surroundings. Colin’s visit went unnoticed. She went over the conversation she had had with her lover and tried to convince herself there was still hope.

“Why visit me if she doesn’t care about me?”

She sat in her kitchen with endless cups of tea and fantasised about her and Verona kissing and making up, she just had to be patient, and the silly girl would see sense in time.

“Off to Birmingham? I ask you.”

She looked out of her front room window as she pulled the curtains later that evening and saw Mrs. Taylor walking that stupid little dog of hers.
