It was sunny, but it was cold. A paperboy, no more than eleven years old, stood on the corner of the Y.M.C.A. building with a stack of papers on an old apple box and holding up a copy, waving it around.

“Read it here! The Saint Paul Thunderbolt to fight Kayo Bill Brennan! Read it here! Miske coming out of retirement for a fight against Brennan!”

A couple of men stopped and handed two cents to the kid and he handed them a paper from his stack.
