Louie’s Barbershop was where everyone from the Daily News went to get a haircut. It was a matter of convenience as the shop was located just a block away in a building that housed a bookstore on the second floor, a market on one side, and diner on the other. Reporters could get a meal, a shave and a haircut, do a little research if needed, and pick up a few things for dinner that night. Lou was good for a laugh, too, and he was always up on the latest gossip. Reporters gathered many leads from Lou and he was their best-kept secret. At least that is what Lou told everyone. George liked him because he read his articles.
