Jack Reddy was not a complicated man. Like most people in Minnesota, he grew up a farmer’s son. He left home when he was thirteen in search of adventure. Some said that he ended up in the Navy, and others said he ended up in jail. Regardless of where he was as a young man, he eventually found himself back in Minnesota many years later. Jack was never a fighter, but rather a teacher and manager of the men who enjoyed taking or giving a beating. He started out managing pugilists that fought in barns and saloon basements. Eventually, society accepted the sport, even if it was not legal. That would come much later.
