It was two weeks since the Dempsey fight. Marie’s mother moved from New York to St. Paul and was staying in the guest room that Billy and Marie prepared for her until the bungalow that Billy rented for her a couple of streets over was ready for her. The room used to be a workout room for Billy and an office of sorts, minus anything paperwork related.

Marie did not allow a punching bag, as it shook the entire house when Billy pounded on it. Nor did she allow a speed bag, as the loud rhythmic beat made it virtually impossible for her to keep the home peaceful. All it had were a few weights, a rowing machine, a small table, and a full-length mirror that Billy used to box in. Of course, they moved all of that out into the shed now.
