The days beyond that night were a blur.  They were spent giving long detailed descriptions of what had happened at Jackie’s house, as well as at the quarry, and most of our answers were just elaborate lies.  There was no way the police or the reporters were going to believe our story anyway, so we had to give them an alternative to the truth.  Luckily for us Viktor’s reputation had preceded him, and it turned out there was already an investigation under way by the Hawks, a special policing unit, into charges of fraud and money laundering, focused mostly on the empire he had built around Emsky Security.  There were also several unexplained murders that had been linked to him, and with our version of events to collaborate the facts they already h...
