We recognized Boudreau’s voice.

The controlled urgency. “Repeat; officer down. Unconscious. Head wound from unknown caliber round. Second chest wound from a combat knife. Unknown degree of penetration. Pulse one thirty five and thready.”

If Boudreau was talking, and Bree wasn’t, it had to be Bree who was down. Three of the guys made a quick sign of the cross. One of them was Minelli. I didn’t want to like him, but I appreciated the prayer. It didn’t quite make up for him being a Fed, but I appreciated it.

I felt the truck decelerate, turn a corner, then accelerate again.
