I decided to tell AJ her father had died right there instead of waiting for when we went to the safe house. There had been so much publicity when David left, I was afraid his death would also be a media circus. I did not want AJ to learn she’d lost her father from the television. I didn’t need her head more messed up than it already was.
David had had very little to do with AJ. At times it seemed like he avoided her like the plague. David had been gone for more than half a year without making the least attempt to contact his daughter.
