Series Description:
Jess Green lives in a convent orphanage on the edge of the Disaster Zone. When the children begin to disappear, rumour is that the increasingly erratic Sister Enuncia is abandoning them in the desert for the nightbeetles to snip to pieces. But Jess will one day discover that the thing which stalks the corridors is closer to her than she could've possibly imagined, and that Enuncia is merely a puppet in an unfolding horror...
Short stories from Jess's convent childhood.
Category/Genre(s): Fantasy, Science Fiction, Mystery/Thriller, Adult FictionAuthor Bio For Liz Monument:
Liz Monument writes dark futuristic fiction, ranging from dystopian noir fantasy to SF. Originally from the UK, she lives in Victoria, Australia with her husband and two young children.
'The Convent' is previously unpublished back story to 'The Eternity Fund' (available in paperback from Fahrenheit Press, Amazon and as a talking book from Audible.co.uk).

Acknowledgements:
The Convent short stories were written and edited with the guidance of my Creative Writing tutor Dr Sarah Corbett, who has remained a friend since I was paired with her on my CW MA in 2011. Sarah's keen eye helped me tighten my prose and refine my ideas over the two years I studied with her; I'm forever endebted.
Notes:
My earliest SFF influence was Anne McCaffrey and her wonderful dragon-filled world. The MA introduced me to Doris Lessing, JG Ballard, and David Mitchell among many others. 'The Convent' is based in a futuristic post-disaster society which pays homage to urban fantasy.
I try to read as widely as possible so that my stories aren't all placed in the same world. My second novel 'Iteration' is due out with Fahrenheit Press in Spring 2017. It follows three women over a two thousand year period, pre-disaster and post-disaster, and examines the consequences of genetic engineering.
