Lord Bolden stared helplessly around him. His men in Hazelwood Valley were surrounded by the Moribundian army. There was nowhere for them to run, he realized. All was lost.

“Sir, look!” one of Lord captains shouted, pointing up at the sky.

Glancing up, Lord Bolden almost gasped at the hundreds of enormous birds flying in from the south toward them. “What are they?” one of the knights asked.

“I don’t know,” the commander responded. The birds were flying in fast and he thought they looked golden in the bright afternoon light, but he couldn’t be sure. Never before had he seen such large creatures. Were they from the Moribundian army? Was this a new weapon to launch at them?

As the birds flew into the valley, both sides looked up to watch them...
