In the valley of Hazelwood, Lord Henrick Bolden waited impatiently for the physician to finish sewing the wound on his arm closed. “The Moribundians are attacking the south wall,” one of his soldiers reported, saluting.

“Send Captain Hillick and his men to help Lord Channing,” Lord Bolden commanded.

“Sir, you must sit still,” the physician admonished.

Lord Bolden gave an impatient shrug and looked at one of his captains. “What are the numbers?”

“Four hundred fifty-six dead, 944 wounded so far,” the captain reported.
